Researchers considered six types of distresses in the analysis including fatigue cracking, longitudinal cracking in the wheel path area, longitudinal cracking outside the wheel path area, transverse cracking, rut depth, and smoothness measured by the International Roughness Index (IRI).
The performance standard selected by MoDOT is the International Roughness Index that is considered universal to all pavement types.
Table 2 shows the recommended IRI for Missouri's use in the pavement type selection process.
